Todd Webb in Africa: Outside the Frame

Todd Webb in Africa: Outside the Frame

In a steamer truck found in an art collector’s basement, thousands of Todd Webbs vintage prints, negatives, journal pages, and 170 rolls of undeveloped film surfaced 40 years ago. What stories did they tell? What visionary expression of art did they express? It would take years to reveal – but what the expanse was of an artist’s true expression and vision of real life, the changing face of a continent captured.

The revelation was Todd’s life’s work … AFRICA, circa 1950’s.

Nearly 65 years later, history in the making, the film’s been dusted off – negatives restored and with delight, we now get to view countries like Sudan, Somalia, Togo and Zambia brought to life with alluring colour-rich photos from Todd’s collection. Collected and published in a stunning new book, Todd Webb in Africa, from Thames & Hudson.
