Venture Beyond the Headlines
Recently I was introduced to a London-based global trading company, ISHKAR. This is one company who’s creed and business model captures the eye, as well as heart and spirit. ISHKAR works with women and men artisans inside countries that have suffered great loss, pain, and uncertainty. Women and men across the world from NGO’s and designers, to artisans and travel guides
Allow me to begin by properly introducing you through their own words; “We do what humans have done forever: trading objects, telling stories, and traveling beyond our own frontiers.” This is how we have been connecting as humans since the beginning of time. Yet the work of hands and gift of gab are both seemingly becoming an art of the past.
But maybe not yet, completely.
Zena Sabbagh from ISHKAR.com‘s Spotlight On. Her passion led her to set up her atelier in Beirut where she now works with other displaced women to create unique textiles.
The products lovingly made by the hands of ISHKAR’s partnering entrepreneurs encapsulate history and craftsmanship. Exquisitely personal and extraordinary. Old world and ancient traditions revel through the gems, molding, weaves, textures, milling, and designs from beginning to end. You’ll even find inspiring influences by world-renowned architects Zaha Hadid and Frank Gehry, rugs designed on behalf of the Afghan charity Arzu Studio Hope. An innovative model of social entrepreneurship that helps Afghan women weavers and their families break the cycle of poverty.
Excited to share that my own collection of global art from ISHKAR will be gracing our walls here at T-Concepts headquarters, very soon!!
